Dubai court orders prosecution witnesses to appear as Brooke George remains in custody

British 23 year old Brooke George was allowed to video call her family following hearing that left her fate up in the air. Miss George faces further weeks in a Dubai prison as defence prepares to challenge prosecution witnesses and medical evidence.
DUBAI, 8 September 2026: The criminal trial of 23 year old British woman Brooke George has been adjourned until 21 September 2026, when the court is expected to hear prosecution witnesses in the murder case against her.
Brooke, from Gravesend, Kent, remains in custody in Dubai, where she has been detained since the death of her British boyfriend on 21 June.
At the latest hearing, Brooke's defence asked the judge to summon all witnesses who gave evidence against her, arguing that there are significant discrepancies between their accounts. The defence has also raised the fact that some of those witnesses have already left the UAE.
Forensics concurred that Brooke had sustained significant injuries to her face, congruent with her account that she was assaulted by the deceased prior to his death.
The court granted an adjournment until 21 September for prosecution witnesses to be heard, with Brooke remaining detained in the meantime.
Brooke's lawyers have also asked for the medical expert who examined the deceased's body to appear before the court. The defence intends to question the expert over the potential significance of the deceased's extremely high level of intoxication and whether alcohol may have contributed materially to his death.
The case files already contain some digital and forensic material, including examination of mobile phones and communications connected with the case but no examination of the deceased’s or witness’s technology post Brooke’s arrest appears to have been investigated.

“This is an extremely important development for Brooke. Until now, she has been sitting in a Dubai prison knowing that statements made against her contain gross discrepancies that have not yet been properly tested before the court.
“Brooke is just 23 years old. She has been incarcerated thousands of miles from her family, facing the most terrifying accusation imaginable and the possibility of the gravest possible consequences. Every additional week in detention is extraordinarily difficult for her and devastating for those who love her.
“But there is now an opportunity for the defence to confront the evidence directly. Brooke's lawyers have specifically asked that the people whose statements are being relied upon against her be brought before the court. Where accounts conflict, those discrepancies must be exposed and properly examined.
“It is particularly important that the medical evidence is scrutinised. The defence has raised serious questions concerning the deceased's level of intoxication and wants the medical expert who examined his body to answer those questions before the court.
“A young woman's future is at stake. This cannot simply become a case where untested statements are accepted because witnesses have left the country or where important forensic and medical questions remain unanswered. There are issues of character to challenge and this cannot be done if they do not show up.
“Brooke has consistently maintained that she did not deliberately murder her boyfriend. Her defence is that what happened arose during a violent confrontation and struggle. She deserves a rigorous examination of the evidence before any conclusion is reached.
“The next hearing could therefore be extremely significant. We hope the witnesses attend, that the defence is given a genuine opportunity to challenge their accounts and that the medical evidence is examined thoroughly and independently.
“For Brooke's family, 21 September cannot come soon enough. They desperately want their daughter home, but above all they want to know that she is receiving a fair trial and that every piece of evidence capable of establishing what really happened that night is put before the court.”
