Safi Qurashi has been sentenced to 7 years after his security cheques were allegedly misused during a business deal.  He is one of many entrepreneurs who have quite literally, done nothing wrong but somehow remain in jail.

Despite his daughter’s plea for his return and the obvious legal reasons why he should have been released a long time ago, he remains imprisoned with numerous others in the same boat.  We have examined the case notes and legal reasons behind his convictions and can not support the outcome.

Safi’s quest for justice has been denied and the merits and facts of his case highlight obvious flaws within the UAE judicial system.  The UAE’s infrastructure and success has been the focus as it grew into an investment hub for the world but while it grew financially, it would seem the judicial system was denied the same level of focus.  I think it’s time for review.
